Reckless Driving Leads to Morning Collision on 5 Freeway in Santa Ana, Injuries Reported
SANTA ANA, CA (February 13, 2018) – Two people were hospitalized following a two-car crash Tuesday morning near the intersection of 5 Freeway and Highway 22. The crash happened at approximately 8:17 a.m. involving a blue Chevrolet Suburban and a gray sedan. According to an initial report by the California Highway Patrol, the sedan was recklessly driving when it collided with the Chevrolet SUV. Both cars were recovered in the HOV lane, one was reportedly smoking. Two people were hurt in the crash, one of them suffered moderate injuries. Responding paramedics transported both patients to UCI Medical Center for proper treatment. One of the patients has been identified as a 41-year-old David Rico. Authorities are still gathering more information and evidence to determine liability. Always be careful driving on major California freeways especially during high traffic situations. When entering and exiting on freeways, make sure to proceed with caution. Stay patient, safe, and alert. Avoid distractions and keep your eyes on the road at all times.
