Personal Injury Attorney Nj

Today, Your Legal Corner finishes up the month with a simplistic overview of the personal injury process.

It was intentionally written with the layman in mind by trusted attorney Ernest L. Alvino Jr., who is the head of the civil litigation department at the Law Firm of Hoffman DiMuzio. Here goes. Hope it’s helpful!

--Saying you’re a “personal injury lawyer” is about as clear as saying, “I work for the government.” People know you have a job; they’re just not sure what it is.

A “personal injury” is just what it sounds like: a harm or loss to a person, whether it’s physical, emotional or financial. It can happen in a car crash, a slip-and-fall, work injury, from a product, or in some other way. A personal injury lawsuit is a claim you bring when that injury is the fault of someone else. Because not all injuries are someone else’s fault, not all personal injuries result in you seeing me. But if you do come to my office, you’ll hear about steps to bring and conclude a personal injury case and get my promise that “it’s not that bad.”

Initially, we gather information on how and why your injury happened. This entails pictures of a car, property or product that injured you and statements from the witnesses as to your harm.

We ask doctors and other experts to describe exactly what your injury is and how severe you can expect it to be. We then send this information to the person responsible for your harms and ask for fair compensation.

Compensation for personal injuries in New Jersey is only through money, which is usually paid by the responsible person's insurance company.

For example, a person who harms you by rear-ending your vehicle or exposes you to a dangerous condition on their property usually has insurance to cover the losses. If the responsible person or their insurance company refuses to fairly compensate you, we start a personal injury lawsuit against them in the court system.
