Personal Injury Lawyers West Palm Beach

he incoming president of the Florida Bar is a West Palm Beach attorney who wants to find better ways to provide legal services to a majority of Floridians who can't afford to hire a lawyer.

Gregory W. Coleman, 51, said about 60 percent of Floridians earn too much to qualify for free legal aid — yet don't have enough money to pay legal fees. Family courts are especially clogged, he said, with people who file their own divorce papers or ask for changes in child custody agreements, he said.

"We need a broader vision for access to justice, to try to create a new platform to provide services to the poor," Coleman said.

He'll hold a summit on providing more legal services to those who can't afford it after he is sworn in as president of the almost 99,000-member Florida Bar June 27 during the annual convention in Orlando. Business leaders will also be called in to offer their suggestions. "It's a societal problem," Coleman said.

Another of Coleman's goals is to help more attorneys become tech-savvy. "We have been slow to recognize the importance of technology," he said.

Coleman, however, has been known as a technology trend-setter as a member of the Florida Bar Board of Governors for eight years. He said doing more e-filing and using apps and free online services can speed up work. It does for him.

Still, with additional responsibilities at the Florida Bar, Coleman said he has to work Saturday mornings. But he makes it fun by taking his son, Cody, 7, who plays with Legos while Coleman works on legal matters.
